Okay, this will be pretty short. I hope to have the actual commentary up by tonight but I wanted to mention one thing. The complete sequence of Drosophila has been published in Science. Pretty neat stuff. But, from my quick perusal, the mapping mostly includes euchromatic regions. Almost 3.8 Mb of unmapped sequences, probably representing genes in heterochromatin, still remain. Considering the hypothesis in an earlier column, this is something that makes you go Hummmm.
